BREAK THE CODE WITH SECURE RACING
A new team in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship is to mark its debut with the launch of an innovative spectator competition. The livery of the Secure Racing Aston Martin GT4, to be unveiled at Brands Hatch over the weekend of 18/19 June, will feature a hidden, coded message developed by the threat and vulnerability management team at PWC, one of the world’s largest consulting firms. The challenge for spectators with a flair for code-breaking will be to find the code and to crack it. The overall competition winner will get the chance to sit alongside one of the Secure Racing drivers – Peter Erceg or Chris Holmes – and experience a thrilling track ride. The contest is open not only to Brands Hatch spectators; pictures of the coded car will be published on the team’s website at www.secureracing.co.uk and through its Twitter profile @secureracing “It’s a great competition and a great prize,” says Chris Holmes, “and we are looking forward to involving a lot of people in it who might otherwise not be following British GT.” The Leeds-based 24-year-old is relishing the prospect of his GT debut: “It’s the first time I will have raced a car with a roof, and I am super-excited about it. I have tested the car and I know that the guys from Barwell Motorsport, who will be preparing the Aston, know what they are about, so I am hoping we will be there or thereabouts with the pace from the outset.” Secure Racing has been established to give the IT security industry its own team, with the aim of raising awareness that security technologies have a critical role to play beyond the office environment. Monitoring technology company Dtex Systems is behind the team, supported by AlgoSec, the market leader in network security policy management. “IT security plays a critical role in some of the most exciting and challenging environments in the world,” says Dtex UK managing director Mohan Koo. “Motorsport is a perfect demonstration – it’s an environment where the margin for error is so small that keeping any competitive advantage within the team is essential. It’s a perfect example of where data security is paramount for achieving success outside the corporate world.” The Brands Hatch two-hour round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will also be the series debut for Erceg, who has Porsche Club racing experience and has also contested the GT3 Challenge and other sports car events. Holmes comes to British GT having cut his teeth racing Caterhams, Formula BMW and Formula Renault. Secure Racing’s arrival in the GT4 category will add to the intensity of an already keenly fought class which has seen the KTM X-Bow of Peter Belshaw and Marcus Clutton twice claim the race honours, as well as one win for the Jake Rattenbury/Josh Wakefield Century Motorsport Ginetta. The arrival of Aston Martin to the fray adds a fourth marque to the championship battle alongside KTM, Ginetta and Lotus. Championship manager Benjamin Franassovici welcomed Secure Racing to British GT: “It is great to see GT4 flourishing in this way; to have four different marques represented is very pleasing. I know that Peter, Chris and the Aston will be a very competitive prospect. For more information about the Avon Tyres British GT Championship CLICK HERE |
