BRITISH F4 READY TO TOUCH DOWN AT DONINGTON PARK

Three different race winners, five different podium finishers, a rookie on pole position and every single driver registering their first points of the campaign – after an ultra-competitive season-opener, the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost resumes at Donington Park this weekend [27-28 April].

Sebastian Alvarez arrives in Leicestershire as the early championship leader after claiming his first win in the Ford EcoBoost-powered series at Brands Hatch and, with team-mate and rookie Louis Foster also victorious first time out alongside Reema Juffali, another positive starter, the omens are good for reigning champions Double R Racing to continue their strong start this weekend.

Alvarez’s closest challenger – Richardson Racing’s Luke Browning – put in one of the stand-out performances last time out to take the team’s first victory amid wet conditions from the fifth row of the grid and will undoubtedly have his sights set on reducing the Mexican racer’s advantage in the standings before this weekend’s triple-header around the 1.95-mile National circuit is out.

Karting graduate Joe Turney only announced his drive with single-seater powerhouse Carlin on the eve of the new season before taking a sensational pole position and three solid points finishes on his first appearance in Ford’s winning formula.

Either he or team-mate Zane Maloney could arguably have won the Ford Rookie Award, a £5,000 prize for the first Rookie Cup entrant to win a race outright, but for misfortune. They arrive here placed first and second in the Rookie stakes, Maloney seven points ahead of Turney.

JHR endured a frustrating start to the campaign, with Carter Williams’ podium in the final race the high point on a weekend that saw disappointment for one of the pre-season title favourites, Josh Skelton. Contact at Druids on two occasions put a dent in the Cumbria-based driver’s early points haul, but his pace is undeniable; expect Skelton to bounce back into the title fight this weekend.

Arden Motorsport are back to a three-car outfit at Donington this weekend, with Alex Connor making his debut alongside Tommy Foster and Bart Horsten, both of whom were unlucky not to leave Kent with their first silverware in the series.

Fortec Motorsport’s Roberto Faria and Mariano Martinez complete one of the most competitive junior single-seater grids worldwide, the Brazilian aiming to build on a hat-trick of Rookie Cup podiums at Brands Hatch whilst Martinez will be looking to build on a solid points haul this time around.
