BRSCC PACKS UP AND GOES COASTAL FOR ANGLESEY SUMMER SPECIAL

The BRSCC returns to Anglesey Circuit for a packed Summer Race Weekend in 2025, bringing a diverse blend of championships to one of the UK’s most scenic venues. With its dramatic coastal views and flowing layout, Anglesey provides a spectacular backdrop for a mix of endurance, single-seater, saloon, and city car racing. Across two days of competition, fans will be treated to close battles, developing talent, and a wide range of machinery that showcases the depth of British club motorsport.

We’re already on to the third event of the year for the Fun Cup Endurance Championship, and Anglesey brings one of the best weekends of the year for the championship, too. This meeting sees the traditional pair of races on the coast of the Irish Sea, both three hours in length, with one taking place in the afternoon and the other starting in late afternoon and finishing in the twilight of a summer evening. Last year’s visit produced some of the best racing of the year, and there’s hopes for more of the same this time, as they will also be the only championship to race on the shorter Coastal layout this weekend while the rest compete on the full International course.

It seems that no matter what, and no matter how many times they start from the back, it’s incredibly difficult to knock defending champions Olympian-GRD off the top step of the podium. The team of Chris Dovell, Simon Rudd and Riley Phillips have taken victories at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park and go to Wales as the erstwhile points leaders once again. Their perennial rivals UVio/ Hofmann’s Motorsport are six points behind in second, with VapeClub with EDF Motorsports, Red River Sport and GCI Racing in the top five. All of them are expected to be in contention in both races, but don’t rule out the likes of Sheradize UK, Greenheath, PLR Racing, Racelogic and many more, as they all quest to put the brakes on Olympian-GRD’s quest to win yet another title.

It’s been a while since they made a trip to the Welsh coast, but it’s brilliant to have our amazing young stars of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship out in force at Anglesey this weekend, as they form part of a distinct Ford flavour throughout most of the rest of the paddock. The Juniors are barely three weeks removed from some top class racing on their first ever visit to Mallory Park, where they put on an incredible show for the spectators, and Anglesey will surely produce more.

So far, victories have gone to Jack Burgess, Archie Davies and Thomas Merritt, but the battles at the front in every race have been tight and unpredictable thus far. That means there’s several more drivers who genuinely have the potential to take a win at least once this year, including both FJC Scholarship winners Lewis Islin and Daniella Sutton, Oliver Heron, Dara McInerney, Callie Clifford, Issac Doble and Max Fenton, meaning that a great mix of rookies and sophomore drivers have a great chance at strong results. Anglesey could make for a really intriguing spectacle across all three races.

Their faster, turbocharged senior counterparts in the AIRTEC Motorsport Fiesta ST240 Championship will certainly welcome Anglesey’s fast and flowing nature, and it hasn’t been short of drama and action from the opening two events. Going to Wales, Gary Miller has taken wins in three of the first five races and holds an eight point lead over defending Pro champion Alastair Kellett in second place. The champ is yet to take his first victory of the season thus far, but has only finished off the podium once so far this year, and he’ll be desperate to get back to the top step. Zachary Lucas is never far away from the front and sits in third in Pro, just ahead of George Foxlow and Sean Reynolds in the top five.

As for the Am class, so far it’s been all about newcomer Jason O’Connell. He’s been tough to beat thus far and goes to Wales nearly 30 points ahead of nearest rival Daniel Robinson, who is adapting well after switching from the ST150 Challenge. Maggie Webster, Luke Warr and Harry Walsh round off the top five in class currently, but that could all change around by the close of the event.

Continuing on the Fiesta theme, the Vinyl Detail Fiesta ST150 Challenge heads to one of its much loved circuits, a favourite for many given this championship’s roots racing in the North Western region in the days of the XR Challenge. So far, wins have been shared between Sam Watkins, Dillon Davis and Max Buxton, the latter making a great start to his second season in the championship and hoping to add more victories to his tally this weekend.

This year’s field of drivers looks particularly strong, especially with many drivers already finding themselves in the top five in the opening races. Defending champion Michael Blackburn has had rather mixed fortunes in his title defence so far and will wish to bounce back this weekend, while others who will want to impress include George Foxlow, Sophie Kinghorn, Liam Browning and Robbie Harrison to name just a few.

To finish off the quartet of Ford contests, the Geoff Page Engineering Super Classic Pre ‘99 Formula Ford Championship makes a much anticipated return to Anglesey, after the drivers requested for its inclusion in the 2025 calendar. Single seater racing on this circuit is always a fine spectacle, and the Formula Fords are guaranteed to provide plenty of the cut-and-thrust action they’re known for, with plenty of wheel-to-wheel battles expected.

Tom Hawkins and Ben Powney have been the top men out in front of Super Classic A and will continue their battles here, with company from Vincent Jay, Nigel Dolan and Neil Hunt. There’s also a solid Super Classic B contingent including Chris Stones, Ian Schofield, Mathew Smith and Oliver Roberts, plus last year’s Super Classic D winner Oliver Buckton making a guest appearance in slightly more modern machinery. Colin Williams represents Super Classic C, while Nigel Grant guests in SCD too.

Even though Anglesey is a rather remote location for a racetrack, that hasn’t stopped the Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup & Student Motorsport contest from producing another sold-out grid. No less than 42 cars are set to descend on Wales, with a field full of Gen 1 Citroen C1s, Peugeot 107s and Toyota Aygos and Gen 2 cars all ready for battle. With a field this big and cars this diminutive, don’t be surprised to see this lot trying to make it three or even four wide on the approach to corners. It’s due to be big fun from start to finish.

Stuart Bliss, the defending champion, is unsurprisingly on top right now once again, albeit this time racing with Boston College Racing, one of the Student Motorsport squads, as he looks to gain a second title and become the first SM team to win the championship overall. Even though he leads, the competition is quite possibly the fiercest it’s ever been, with numerous drivers all duking it out for podiums. They include Alistair May, Richard Jepp, Ben Spencer (best of the newcomers), Chris Parkes, Andrew Dyer, Haydn Payne, Josh Jackson and Jack Wheeler to name but a few.

Adding another extra historic element to the event, the 500OA Historic Formula 3 paddock appears on the timetable, ready to wind back the clock to the late 1940s and early 1950s. These cars were the genesis of what we now know as Formula 3 and the equivalent level of junior single seater racing today. With names such as Bernie Ecclestone, Sir Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Sir Jack Brabham, Ken Tyrrell, Mike Hawthorn and many more cutting their teeth in these cars, enjoy the sights and sounds they’ll provide on track, as they transport us back to the good ol’ days of motorsport!
