CLARKE & KIRKHAM ENJOY PORSCHE SUCCESS

CATEGORIES:

Two rounds of the BRSCC’s Porsche Championship were staged at Oulton Park on Saturday, 8th May as the category made a guest appearance on the bill of the MG Car Club’s race meeting..

For this season a class for Boxsters has joined the long serving 924s. Of the four newer models that lined up at the front of the grid for the opening encounter, three were nearly wiped out at the first corner. Fortunately Sean Cooper, Nick Hull and Dave Hughes were all able to continue after the mayhem at Old Hall (although the latter had damage to the rear of his car) but by the time the field reached Cascades on the opening tour David Clark already had an unbeatable advantage.

As a result of the early chaos the lead 924 of Steven Brown was as high as second place when they headed down Lakeside for the first time but a momentary lapse later in the lap left him ninth. He recovered to come home fourth behind the battling trio of Alistair Kirkham, Andrew Hannington and Jayson Flegg who finished on the class podium in that order.

With the results of the earlier race determining the grid later in the day Brown had more work to do to beat Kirkham who had made a blinding start. Having moved into second place on lap 6 Brown closed rapidly on the leader of the 924s but couldn’t find a way by before the chequered flag fell.

The Boxsters stayed on the tarmac when they returned to the track with Nick Hull out in front initially but he was neatly outbraked by David Clark into Hislops on lap 2. Hull was further demoted by Sean Cooper a short while later.
