CRUNCH TIME FOR BRITISH F4 TITLE AS SILVERSTONE BECKONS

CATEGORIES:

Six races to go, seven drivers still in title contention. It’s crunch time in the race for F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost crown as the stars of tomorrow arrive at Silverstone.

Another dramatic triple-header north of the Scottish border at Knockhill has seen Zane Maloney’s advantage in the standings reduced again from 37 points to just 15 over Double R Racing’s Sebastian Alvarez.

The Carlin racer did secure the Rookie title in Fife and won the opening race, but damage in the second dropped him back to eighth before a broken driveshaft prevented him from taking up pole position for the ITV4-televised finale.

Alvarez made no mistake amid the disruption, a triple podium finish moving him to within striking distance of the BRDC Rising Star.

Maloney could, in theory, wrap up the championship title in Northamptonshire this weekend, but would need a monumental 61-point shift against Alvarez, and so on relative to the other contenders to extend his lead over each of them to over 75 points in order to secure the honours a round early.

JHR racer Josh Skelton also took a hat-trick of silverware to extend his run of podiums to eight; he remains an outside shot for the title, but has been closing in at a rate of knots of late…

Likewise Louis Foster (Double R), back in the winner’s circle for the first time at Donington Park last time out, or Skelton’s in-form teammate Carter Williams, the American taking three wins in his last six starts.

Foster’s form could take on extra significance this weekend as Double R look to secure back-to-back Teams Cup titles; if they extend their lead over JHR by 9 points this weekend, that will be enough to secure it for the Woking-based squad.

Bart Horsten (Arden Motorsport) is another driver still in mathematical contention but will need to bounce back from a frustrating Knockhill to continue to stake a claim.

Luke Browning (Richardson Racing) completes the seven contenders, but will need to win every remaining race and hope those ahead fail to score on a regular basis in order to take the crown at this stage – one finish of ninth or higher for Maloney before the season’s end will end Browning’s mathematical chances.

Tommy Foster (Arden) will be out aiming for a repeat of his race-winning performances earlier in the campaign in front of the Silverstone crowd. Alex Connor (Arden) took a brace of Rookie wins in Scotland – a first overall podium is surely just around the corner.

Chris Lulham (Fortec) makes his first appearance in Ford’s winning formula this time around, the karting ace returning to competitive action after a break to concentrate on exam commitments.

The field is completed by Fortec duo Roberto Faria and Mariano Martinez, Double R’s Reema Juffali, JHR’s Alex Walker and Arden’s Abbie Munro.

Their battles have been as equally thrilling as the title fight of late; every point is hard-fought among Ford’s rising stars, and this weekend will be no different.
