What to Expect at the Scholarship
Each Qualifying Day is designed to be a positive and encouraging experience. While performance is assessed, the emphasis is on recognising potential — particularly in those who take on feedback, show development, and present themselves well throughout the day.
Driving Assessments
Participants will take part in a series of on-track driving assessments, guided by professional instructors. Throughout the day, our team will be looking at how each driver develops — including how well they respond to feedback, follow instruction, and work positively with others. It’s not about turning up fully polished or simply being the fastest. We’re focused on attitude, progression, and how each driver adapts as the scholarship unfolds. Off-Track Assessments A successful racing driver also needs to present themselves well off the track. That’s why we include a few additional elements designed to build confidence and help us get to know each participant beyond their driving. Each candidate will be asked to deliver a short 90-second spoken presentation on a topic of their choice. This could be motorsport-related or something completely different — the subject is entirely up to them. The aim is to see how they communicate and present themselves. Candidates (Top 12) will also take part in a simulated podium-style interview with Richard John Neil, one of the UK’s most respected motorsport presenters. This exercise is designed to mirror the kind of media interaction drivers often experience during a race weekend. Fitness Evaluation To ensure everyone is ready for the physical demands of racing, we include a simple, light fitness evaluation as part of the day. No special kit is needed. The assessment is brief and low-pressure, designed only to check that each candidate has the basic level of fitness needed to handle a junior race car safely. If anyone has concerns about this part of the programme, we encourage them (or their parent/guardian) to speak with the scholarship team ahead of the event — we’re happy to make reasonable adjustments where needed. |
Progression and Final Selection
At the end of each Qualifying Day, six drivers will be selected to progress to the Top 12 Scholarship Shoot-Out Final on Saturday 2nd November.
On the final day, all twelve drivers will complete additional assessments before six finalists are chosen to compete in the afternoon Shoot-Out. From that final group, one talented individual will be crowned the 2026 BRSCC Fiesta Junior Scholarship Champion.
Even if you don’t win, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and speak with professional race teams running cars in the Fiesta Junior Championship — making this a valuable experience for any young driver serious about joining the grid.
What to Bring
- The event takes place mostly outdoors — please dress appropriately for the weather
- Race suits/overalls are not required, but arms and legs must be fully covered when in the race car
- Thin-soled, lightweight footwear is recommended for better pedal control (avoid thick-soled trainers)
- You’re welcome to bring your own helmet, as long as it’s compatible with our Stilo communications system via a Stilo adapter. If not, a suitable helmet will be provided on the day
