F3/GT’s HEAD TO SILVERSTONE

In the Avon Tyres British GT Championship seven drivers are still vying for the title so this Sunday’s two-hour marathon really begins the count down to the end of the season, with just two Brands Hatch one hour races to follow at Brands Hatch next month.

With just six races remaining in which to decide the outcome of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series, Sunday’s double-header will be crucial to the hopes of the title aspirants. British Formula 3 has rarely been more competitive and exciting, with eight different drivers from six different teams having scored race wins already this season. Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo has led the championship from day one and arrives at Silverstone with as big a lead as he’s ever had – he’s 37 points ahead of his closest rival, Walter Grubmüller.

It’s a similar story in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain which has produced seven different race winners from four different countries, although the title battle is much closer with just 17 points separating the leading contenders, James Cole and Josef Newgarden. The picture may just be clearer after this weekend’s trio of races.

All eyes in the Volkswagen Racing Cup will be on how Snooker World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan performs in the double header of the Hankook backed championship. ‘Rocket Ronnie’ has been in training at Silverstone since last week and his 2 Litre Jetta will sport the maximum break number 147. At the front of the grid Didge Dziurzynski and Joe Fulbrook wil renew battle with only 8 points separating them at the head of the standings.

Over the two days there are thirteen races in total with double headers for the Texaco Havoline Ginetta G20 Championship and Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo completing the schedule.
