LAURA PAYNE AWARDED BERT LAMKIN MEMORIAL SALVER FOR 2020

BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship coordinator Laura Payne has been chosen as the latest recipient of the coveted BRSCC Bert Lamkin Memorial Salver for 2020, the perpetual award that is presented to the individual that is recognised to have done the most to promote the club and its activities throughout the previous season.

The selection was made in recognition of Laura’s hard work, dedication and commitment to turning around the fortunes of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship, as she spearheaded the series’ return to healthier grids after it reached single digits in 2019. Having recently just begun the 2021 season with 15 cars lining up and Croft and more cars set to join from Oulton Park onwards, the fortunes of the Fiesta Junior paddock only look set to carry on getting stronger as the season progresses, a testament to Laura’s tireless efforts. In addition to the aforementioned success, Laura’s support and commitment provided through various other projects and the manner in which she wears the club badge made her a standout candidate for the award on this occasion.

Speaking of her accolade, Laura said: “It’s an incredible honour to be given this award, as I love working with the club and helping them out. I remember when I first attended the annual end-of-season awards ceremony, I knew the Bert Lamkin award was the one I wanted to aim to receive one day, but I never dreamed that it would actually happen! I am so incredibly proud of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship and I love the family that the BRSCC brings. I work with some amazing people, past and present, who have taught me so much and I couldn’t thank them any more. I’m completely blown over!”

Peter Daly, chairman of the BRSCC, added his praise saying “Having given an astonishing about of time, effort, dedication and belief, Laura managed to turn around our Fiesta Junior Championship and helped it transform back into a prosperous and exciting paddock of 15 drivers last season, all but one of whom being newcomers to the championship in 2020. Having carried over her hard work into 2021, Fiesta Juniors will once again see a healthy grid of budding young drivers and there is clear prospects for the numbers to continue growing this season and in the years to come – thanks to Laura’s incredible efforts.”

The 2021 Fiesta Junior season began at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire this past weekend with newcomer Deagan Fairclough taking pole position and two race wins on his first attempt amid a mixture of dry and wet weather conditions. The championship heads to Oulton Park for the very first time on June 19th, where the grid is set to grow even more for Rounds 3 & 4 of the season.

In the meantime, congratulations to Laura on behalf of the entire Club for becoming the latest Bert Lamkin Memorial Salver recipient!
