LMS RACING ENTER CUPRA FOR TCR UK OPENER
Finland’s LMS Racing has confirmed that the team plans to enter a CUPRA TCR car in the opening rounds of the 2018 TCR UK championship at Silverstone on April 1st. The CUPRA will be in the hands of 21-year old Olli Kangas, who was one of the car’s three drivers in its recent appearance in the Silverstone 24H race.
The endurance race, in which Kangas was partnered by fellow Finns Antti Buri and Kari-Pekka Laaksonen, saw the team finish in third place in the TCE class and so Kangas will tackle Silverstone in confident mood The Silverstone entry sees LMS Racing become the first overseas team to enter the TCR UK series and the team plans to use the weekend to prepare for the upcoming STCC/TCR Scandinavia season which begins at Knutstorp in Sweden in early May.
Olli Kangas commented: “Our plan for Silverstone will be to test some things before my season starts in Sweden. My focus this year will be the STCC, so this will probably be my only race in the UK as we have a busy schedule ahead of us, including some VLN and endurance races as well, but I like driving at Silverstone. I was there a couple of weeks ago driving in the 24H race, so I am looking forward to competing in TCR UK.”
Jen Mouratsing, TCR UK Championship Manager, added: “We’re really pleased that LMS Racing has entered the car for Silverstone and we’re looking forward to welcoming Olli and the team to TCR UK. This is a perfect example of how TCR works, where a team is able to compete in more than one series with the same car, and we’re confident that more overseas teams will sign up to do some of our events this year.”
