Mexico’s Sebastian Alvarez will make his car racing debut in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford Ecoboost this year, having been announced as the first confirmed driver for multiple race-winning team Double R Racing.

The 15-year-old, who resides in Texas, USA, arrives in British F4 with a strong karting background in America, Mexico and on the world stage.

Winning the 2011 Super Karts Cadet Cup in Mexico, Alvarez progressed through Cadet Karting and Mini Max in the USA over the next few years, taking his second title in the 2015 Florida Winter Tour Rotax Mini Max Championship.

Stepping up to the CIK-FIA World Junior Championship the following season, Alvarez moved into the WSK Champions Cup and WSK Super Masters Series in 2017 and also contested the CIK-FIA World Championship and CIK-FIA European Championship.

Part of the Infinity Sports Management stable, Alvarez is relishing his first season in cars and looking forward to working with Double R Racing, as well as getting the chance to compete at the UK’s premier race tracks in the live-televised F4 British Championship.

“I’m really excited to join Double R and looking forward to the start of the season,” said the Mexican teenager.

“The car is great to drive, the guys at the team are really professional and fantastic to work with. I’m sure we’re going to have a good season. It’s great to be racing in British F4 this year.”

Double R Racing enters the new British F4 season aiming for another strong year after a successful 2017, which saw the squad win five races with Sweden’s Linus Lundqvist who has stepped-up to the squad’s British Formula 3 team for 2018.

Commenting on Alvarez’s signing, Double R team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt said: “We’re very much looking forward to working with Sebastian, he’s a talented young driver and brings good experience from karting where he’s a championship winner already.

“British F4 is the logical first step for any driver coming out of karting and I’m sure Sebastian is going to make very strong progress throughout the season. We’re delighted to announce him as our first British F4 driver this year and looking forward to a competitive season together.”

Brands Hatch Indy circuit in Kent will host the opening three races of the British F4 season over the weekend 7/8 April, before visiting Donington Park in Leicestershire, Thruxton in Hampshire, Oulton Park in Cheshire and Croft in North Yorkshire.
