REUBEN’S RECORD STILL STANDS

The BRSCC Northern Centre once again made its way up to Cadwell Park for their second and final race meeting this season. A total of 8 action packed races were squeezed into the Saturday program.

The Formula Jedi Championship was the first practice, qualifying and race session to take to the winding Lincolnshire track. The lap record for Cadwell was set in a Formula Jedi in 2007 by Nigel Reuben with an astonishing time of 1.22.225.The record came close to being broken this weekend by Jack Smith. He finished the first race in 5th place with a lap time of 1.23.298, with the winner of this race being Richard Mitcham. There were several non-finishers in the first race, leaving 11 cars to battle it out for the podium finishes. However, Jack Smith stormed to first position in the second race with an incredibly good attempt at the lap record finishing in 1.22.976. The winner of race 1, Richard Mitcham, finished on the podium with a third position, an overall successful day for him. The second race saw a handful of non-finishers, including second place man from the first race, Richard Gittings.

The sunshine broke through the grey cloud for the next group of cars on the timetable, the BESCR series. Despite a disappointing grid the racing was still exciting, with Jon-Paul Ivey winning race 1 in his Radical PR 6 and Paul Steele winning race 2, in his impeccable Radical SR3.

The Scottish Mini Cooper Cup produced two action packed races, with plenty of spins and brave overtaking manoeuvres. Race 1 was won by Michael Rowan and the second race was won by Chris Knox with a lap time of 1.48.063. Willie Struth was the only competitor in the Mini Cup not to finish a race. This was due to a broken drive shaft which made the car take a sudden early left turn in to Coppice where Willie met with the Cadwell scenery!

The final series to race at this meeting was the Porsche 924 Championship. The first race saw all 15 cars finish with Will Penrose taking the win. Kamal Kalsi was a close second with Nico Ferrari finishing 3rd. The second race saw Kamal Kalsi victorious this time with previous winner Penrose taking second. Matt Upchurch finished 3rd. Husband and wife duo Jayson and Vanessa Flegg did not finish the race, along with Seb Ferrari.
