SEVEN MEETING RACE PROGRAMME FOR THE BRSCC MAZDA MX-5 MK4 TROPHY IN 2023

Following a period of technical and commercial development, the British Racing & Sports Car Club is delighted to announce that the Club’s Mazda MX-5 Mk4 Trophy will enjoy a full calendar of events in 2023.

The Mazda MX-5 Mk4 Trophy is designed to offer a stepping-stone from the MX-5 SuperCup for drivers looking for a new challenge, or for those who are searching for the next level in their racing career. The current generation ND (Mk4) Mazda MX-5 model is used as the base car, with various racing upgrades such as uprated suspension, brakes and tyres, and also the very popular optional Sadev sequential gearbox package which delivers an excellent all-round package for drivers.

Originally launched in partnership with top MX-5 race team Paul Sheard Motorsport, the concept behind the Mazda MX-5 Mk4 Trophy is to create a bridge to higher levels of national racing such as GT and sportscar racing and to add another level of competition within the hugely popular BRSCC Mazda racing community.

Through dialogue with Paul Sheard and various other Mk4 MX-5 race car owners, the Club believes that the time is now right to support this growing community of Mk4 drivers by committing to delivering a full programme of sprint events for them through the 2023 race season and beyond.

Commenting on the announcement, Greg Graham, BRSCC’s Head of Formulae Development said:
“Through our long term relationship with Paul Sheard Motorsport, our mutual goal was to find the best ways to support the development of a series to support and develop the MX-5 Mk4 racing category, and for 2023 we’ve come up with a solution whereby owners of all specifications of Mk4 race cars can come together and enjoy a full programme of events.

There is already a number of Mk4 cars racing in various series, and the drivers have been open in letting us know that they’d much prefer to race together. We’re really keen to help this small but growing community of owners to feel supported as part of a more structured racing programme, and that’s what we aim to provide for them in 2023”.

Commenting further, Paul Sheard said, “Having worked closely with the BRSCC over a number of years, I’m delighted that the Club have committed to supporting MX-5 Mk4 owners with a full calendar of events in 2023. I think that this will be a key moment in the growth of the Mk4 model, and I’m sure we’ll see many more cars being built and raced over the coming seasons”.

Further details of the 2023 event structure and calendar will be announced in due course, as will news regarding technical regulations and class structures.
