SMITH SNATCHES VICTORY IN THRILLING FORMULA FORD FESTIVAL

CATEGORIES:

Joshua Smith won this weekend’s 47th running of the BRSCC Formula Ford Festival, after a dramatic last lap battle with Niall Murray and Oliver White for the victory saw him land a crucial pass to claim the win in the Final.

Amidst a safety car, two red flags and three race starts in total, Smith was able to power his way past two-time Festival and National champion Murray on the third start to take the lead around the outside of Paddock Hill Bend. Murray would pick his way back past, but while Smith hounded the Irishman for the entire 8-lap dash to the flag on the final restart, it would be the last lap that would decide the fate of the Festival. Third placed man White caught a run off Paddock Hill Bend and charged down the outside of the top two, which in turn caught Murray off guard. As both cars ran wide as a result, Smith slid up the inside of both cars to eventually hold the lead into Graham Hill Bend. From there, Smith kept Murray at bay for the remainder of the lap to take a memorable victory that places him amongst the great names that have achieved the same feat.

A full race weekend report from the Festival by Colin Mann will be published in due course.
