TCR UK HEADS TO CROFT WITH TITLES ON THE LINE

CATEGORIES:

TCR UK heads for Croft in North Yorkshire for the penultimate race meeting of the season this weekend. The 2.12 mile circuit will play host to Rounds 11 and 12 of the championship on Sunday September 9th and will see at least one of the two 2018 titles decided.

Mathematically, there is currently a tiny chance that WestCoast Racing can be beaten to the Teams’ championship title, although that chance will effectively end once the Croft meeting gets underway. The string of race victories achieved by Dan Lloyd, together with the strong series of finishes by his two teammates, Swedish siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman, mean that the team will no longer be able to be caught by its closest rival, Pyro Motorsport, and so will secure the inaugural TCR UK Teams’ title. The team has confirmed that it will bring all three drivers to Croft, despite a direct clash with the TCR Scandinavia series this weekend in which WestCoast Racing has also been competing.

The battle for the Drivers’ title is not quite so straightforward. Lloyd has seven race victories, including a remarkable six successive wins at Silverstone, Knockhill and Brands Hatch, compared to Ollie Taylor’s single win in Race 1 at Castle Combe. Taylor’s consistency throughout the season, however, coupled with Lloyd’s penalties at Castle Combe and Oulton Park, mean that the pair are separated by 78 points heading to Croft with a possible 182 still on offer over the two remaining events. Lloyd can clinch the title if he outscores Taylor by 13 points this weekend, otherwise the battle will be decided at the championship’s final event at Donington Park next month.

Away from the two title contests, Finlay Crocker and Darelle Wilson both return to the TCR UK grid this weekend. Crocker and Wilson missed the Oulton Park event and return in the Verizon Connect Racing Honda Civic Type-R and the DW Racing Vauxhall Astra respectively.

The two twenty-minute races are scheduled to start at 12.25 and 15.15 on Sunday and both will be streamed live on Facebook, YouTube, the TCR websites, Motor Trend on Demand and the motorsport.tv online platform.
