TCR UK INTRODUCES THE GEN 1 CUP FOR 2024 SEASON
As the end of the 2023 season approaches, plans are already afoot for the 2024 season, which includes the introduction of the 2024 TCR UK Touring Car Championship – Gen 1 Cup.
This will be a new category within the overall TCR UK Touring Car Championship, where drivers and teams who wish to compete next year in Generation 1 cars will be awarded trophies and their own Cup classification next year.
This means that drivers and teams who run VAG Group cars – The Audi RS3 LMS TCR, the CUPRA TCR & the Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR, as well as the Vauxhall/Opel Astra TCR, are currently eligible to enter next year.
Further models that are eligible will be confirmed in due course.
As well as offering this opportunity, This gives the older generation TCR models in use the chance to race within the same grid as the overall TCR UK Touring Car Championship across the seven race weekends already announced.
The 2024 TCR UK Touring Car Championship – Gen 1 Cup provides the chance for anyone looking to enter TCR UK to use older cars and race on a lower budget.
Championship Promoter Stewart Lines welcomes the introduction of the Gen 1 Cup to the 2024 season of TCR UK.
“As the Promoter and rights holder for all TCR activities in the UK, we’ve recognised now that there needs to be some changes going forward to help drivers be part of our platform and be recognised for their participation.
“These changes will generate opportunities for people in older TCR cars who want to be a part of the TCR family and give them a chance to win a TCR championship in their own right. Next year’s package and associated support races will be the place to be in 2024.”
Championship Manager Ashley Gallagher is happy to open up the chance for drivers and teams to compete in the Gen 1 Cup next season.
“After a really successful return to headline events for TCR UK in 2023, 2024 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for the championship in terms of spectator numbers and viewing figures on our live streams.
“This announcement about the 2024 Gen 1 Cup gives even more competitors the chance to join the grid and reap the benefits of being part of the most up-and-coming package in UK motorsport.”
