TCR UK, TOURING CAR TROPHY & VW CUP FORM NEW PACKAGE FOR 2020

CATEGORIES:

In an announcement made over the past weekend, Maximum Motorsport has confirmed their plans for the 2020 TCR UK, Touring Car Trophy and Volkswagen Racing Cup championships as they form a brand new package together for next season.

After Maximum Motorsport took over the running of TCR UK at the beginning of the year, the championship was amalgamated on track with the Dunlop Touring Car Trophy, allowing TCR touring cars and both current and ex-NGTC, BTC and S2000 touring cars to compete together at the same time. Going forwards, the plan has been set out to be the same with a seven-meeting provisional calendar unveiled on Saturday evening.

Alongside TCR UK and TCT, the Volkswagen Racing Cup will also share the same schedule and will appear on the same seven weekends to provide a clear path between production-based saloon car racing and an opportunity to race a touring car on a national level. It’s been estimated by Maximum Motorsport that they are hoping a grid size of 20 cars next season in TCR UK/ TCT, while the aim for the VW Cup will be 25 cars. The latter will be boosted by the recent announcement that Team HARD will be returning to the championship after a year away.

The provisional 2020 TCR UK/ TCT/ VW Cup calendar is as follows:

Silverstone (International) – 18-19 April

Croft –  6-7 June

Brands Hatch (Indy) – 21st June

Oulton Park – 18th July

Snetterton (300) – 8-9 August

Thruxton – 22-23 August

Donington Park (National) – 17-18 October

TCR UK/ TCT will once again be the headline championship on these weekends and will be supported on the timetables by a number of BRSCC series along with the VW Cup too.

Maximum Motorsport boss and championship promoter Stewart Lines spoke of the announcement, saying “Our team at Maximum Motorsport have worked hard to get to this stage and we aim to provide a fantastic and affordable platform to race touring cars and Volkswagen Cup cars in 2020 .”
