BRSCC Chairman Bernard Cottrell and Competitions Director Drew Furlong were among the many distinguished guests who attended the official opening of the 'Silverstone Wing' at the Northamptonshire circuit on Tuesday.
The BRSCC will be the first club to use the Wing for a race meeting as it will be operational for its inaugural event at the FIA GT meeting on 4-6th June, which Silverstone Circuits has contracted the BRSCC to run.
The impressive new complex was declared open on Tuesday morning by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Kent, and the ceremony was attended by a veritable 'who's who' of motorsport representing both cars and bikes. The guest list included no fewer than 5 British F1 champions and also BRSCC Vice-President Sir Stirling Moss OBE.
The new facility is 390 metres in length and 30 metres at its highest point. It houses 41 pit garages, Race Control, the podium, hospitality suites, a media & conference centre and a new spectator area.
In addition to being the first club to use the Wing, the BRSCC also played a part in the design of the building with both Bernard and Drew being consulted about the layout of Race Control and the facilities for race officials.
