TRIBUTES PAID TO BARRY MORRIS
The BRSCC was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Barry Morris, a long-standing and popular South Eastern Centre volunteer.
Barry’s volunteering saw him cover a range of disciplines, working trackside on posts, on Rescue Units, as Radio Controller in Race Control, and as a Clerk of the Course, taking the reins at many a Centre race meeting. He and wife Julie became familiar figures at Brands Hatch, arriving at the crack of dawn to issue radios to fellow officials before action got underway. He was also an active member of other racing clubs including BARC and the Borough 19 Motor Club and was also a licensed Motorsport UK Speed Event clerk of the course and could often be found clerking sprints at many venues up and down the country including North Weald.
In his personal life, Barry worked as the Director of Regulatory Compliance at Swiss Life Asset Managers before retiring in 2014. He was also an active member of the Malling District Lions Club and was very supportive in his efforts to aid the club’s charitable fundraising activities.
A minute’s silence was held to honour Barry during the lunch break of Sunday’s timetable at this past weekend’s race meeting at Brands Hatch and many of his marshalling friends and colleagues turned out to pay their respects. Our thoughts are with Barry’s friends, colleagues and loved ones at this difficult time.
