For the first of two visits in 2021, the British GT Championship heads into the second half of the season as the GT3 and GT4 squads compete at Donington Park on the GP circuit. The sweeping curves are perfect for GT cars to stretch their legs and really pump in some quick lap times and there is NEVER a dull race at Donington Park. Many squads will use this as a warm-up for the #DoningtonDecider in a couple of months, so take notes – whoever is in form at this event might just mean a sneak preview of what to expect in September.
As an added extra dose of fun and excitement, the brand new Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship has managed to secure a support slot on this meeting to replace rounds lost from a cancelled race day that was set to take place later in the season. Having begun the season on the National layout in May, the return of CityCar to Donington Park should see a capacity grid full of Citroen C1s, Peugeot 107s and Toyota Aygos rocking around the full GP loop. Since its launch just over a year ago (at the time this race weekend takes place), CityCar Cup’s interest and popularity has shattered all expectations and having achieved championship status for its very first full season of racing, this shows that it has inspired many within British motorsport including drivers old and new to get involved. Make sure you definitely watch this pair of races, as they might just have the potential to steal the show!
