CLASSIC 2CV RACING CLUB

Iconic cars, unbeatable value, and pure endurance drama — 2CV racing is club motorsport at its best

About the CLASSIC 2CV RACING CLUB

The Classic 2CV Racing Club has been delivering close, competitive and brilliantly entertaining saloon car racing for over 30 years. With a friendly paddock atmosphere, accessible costs, and a packed calendar of endurance-based events, it remains one of the UK’s most unique and community-driven championships. The standout highlight of the season is the annual 24-hour race at Snetterton, widely regarded as one of club motorsport’s most iconic endurance events.

Championship Format:

The championship offers a mix of sprint and endurance races at top UK circuits, with grid sizes often featuring both seasoned veterans and enthusiastic newcomers. The racing is deliberately kept simple and cost-effective, with tightly controlled technical regs that keep performance closely matched across the field.

Despite the 2CV’s modest performance, the on-track action is anything but — expect three-wide cornering, bumper-to-bumper battles, and frequent slipstreaming wars that often go right to the wire.

Technical Overview:

Cars are original Citroen 2CVs, converted to a racing spec, which includes running a performance enhanced 602cc air-cooled engine and modified suspension elements. Vehicles must conform to a strict set of regulations that limit modifications while ensuring reliability and safety for long-distance competition. Mandatory spec parts include the club-supplied camshaft and Toyo tyres, while much of the setup and preparation remains in the hands of the competitors, encouraging a strong DIY ethos and technical camaraderie between teams.

A more basic Classique class accommodates cars with standard engines, allowing anyone with a race licence to enter an almost original Citroen 2CV (essential safety equipment e.g. roll cage, belts, steel roof, fire extinguisher still required) – the ultimate in low cost motorsport.

The Annual 24-Hour:

The showpiece of the calendar is the 2CV 24-Hour Race, held each summer at Snetterton. A bucket-list event for club racers across the UK and beyond, the 24hr is open to multi-driver teams and attracts a loyal following of spectators, volunteers and international entries — including previous participants from the USA and New Zealand. Engine changes in under 10 minutes, fuel stops with gravity-fed Tuff jugs, and full night racing under floodlights all add to the theatre.

Costs & Accessibility:

One of the most affordable forms of racing in the UK, cars can be built, bought or hired depending on budget. Entry fees are kept competitive, and “arrive and drive” options are often available for newcomers. With a strong focus on mechanical simplicity and team effort, 2CV racing offers a low-barrier gateway into real motorsport — and one that’s packed with character.
