The MG Metro Cup Started in 1992, since then it has been successful in maintaining its objective of providing an easy way into motor racing for drivers with a limited budget. The series attracts a varied selection of drivers, from those who have competed for several seasons to absolute novices.
Our super headline sponsor, Hickford Construction Ltd is continuing their support of these worthy little cars for the 2024 season. We are proud to be working in partnership with them as part of our racing family, in addition we look forward to building on our relationship with BRSCC in our second year on their calendar.
As well as our headline sponsor, we are also being supported with sponsorship from Harwood HVAC Services, Harvey Street Motors, JME Controls Limited, Heavenly Ices, Holophane Ltd and Yokohama.
Watch out for some really close qualifying times and thrilling battles as the Metro Turbos (1293 cc) dice with the slightly younger GTIs’ (1400 cc), both with around 120 BHP. Whether you are a seasoned spectator or new to checking out these exciting little pocket rockets, there’s no doubt you will be entertained.
This Championship provides an excellent springboard for those who have never raced before and attracts a wide selection of drivers. Some are navigating their way in circuit racing and other more experienced competitors are looking to tussle for those podium wins. Some drivers have built their own cars, whilst others have purchased cars previously raced in the championship. We welcome some fresh pilots this year and wish them every fun filled success in their track time behind the wheel.
We boast a unique, community orientated environment which is rare to find in the paddock and our drivers are always willing to offer help and advice to our new recruits. Our drivers have, on many occasions sacrificed spare parts and valuable time to selflessly help out fellow competitors and this ethos is at the heart of this cherished Championship.
This is a great way to start racing in a grass roots, low cost, supportive environment. If you think you would like to join in the fun and games with our mighty Metro’s please contact Emma Cross at coordinator@mgmetrocup.co.uk.
