The MG Metro Cup was established in 1992 and has since remained true to its goal of offering an accessible, affordable entry point into motorsport. The championship continues to attract a diverse grid, ranging from experienced competitors with multiple seasons under their belts to complete newcomers taking their first steps into racing.
We are delighted that our headline sponsor, Hickford Construction Ltd, is continuing its valued support for the 2026 season. We are proud to have them as part of our racing family and are equally excited to further strengthen our partnership with the BRSCC in our third year on their race calendar. Alongside our headline partner, we also benefit from the backing of Yokohama.
Spectators can expect incredibly tight qualifying sessions and action-packed races, as the Metro Turbos (1293cc) battle against the slightly newer GTIs (1400cc), with both producing around 120bhp. Whether you are a long-time fan or discovering these pocket rockets for the first time, the on-track entertainment is guaranteed.
The championship serves as an ideal springboard for first-time racers while continuing to appeal to seasoned drivers chasing podium success. Some competitors build their own cars, while others purchase ex-championship vehicles. We are pleased to welcome several new drivers this season and wish them every success—and plenty of fun—during their time on track.
One of the defining features of the series is its uniquely supportive, community-focused paddock environment. Drivers are always willing to share guidance with newcomers, often giving up spare parts and valuable time to help fellow competitors. This spirit of camaraderie lies at the heart of what makes the championship so special.
If you are looking to begin racing, the MG Metro Cup offers the perfect opportunity. For more information on getting involved, please contact Kyla Garrard at coordinator@mg-metrocup.co.uk
